Littlehampton dad hopes to make a career out of writing

Jamie Pond in Rise of the Heron has received five-star reviews on Amazon’s website and David hopes to now expand on that success.

The father of three has submitted his story to several publishers and recently entered the ITV competition, Lorraine’s Top Tales, run in conjunction with Hachette Children’s Group to find a new children’s author.

David said: “I have a very vivid imagination and love to write about the characters I create. In addition, I illustrated my first book’s front and back cover.

“I have already self-published Jamie Pond in Rise of the Heron on Amazon and want now to see my works on bookshelves in physical bookstores.

“Jamie Pond just happens to be the world’s greatest amphibian super spy. Jamie and his trusty sidekicks Lola, a little tree frog, and Flapper, a Canadian goose, battle against The Heron, the Carp and Frog Intelligence Agency’s most feared of villains.”

In the story, the intrepid trio face a death-defying aerial battle and discover secret army bunkers and terrifying bugged-eyed creatures.

David works full time as a site manager for lifting operations at an architectural metal company in Feltham, Middlesex and writes whenever and wherever he can, often at a coffee shop in the centre of London.

He grew up in Yateley, Surrey, and moved to Littlehampton in 1986. David is determined to make a full-time career change, supported by his wife, two daughters and son.

David added: “I have three awesome children, two of which are constantly asking to read the sequel to Jamie Pond in Rise of the Heron.

“I completed my first children’s novel in August. In addition to the Jamie Pond series, I’m writing a story about a girl who is troubled throughout her life by Demons. I hope to finish Tina and submit to the publisher towards the summer.”

David has been writing children’s stories since 2009 and enjoys illustrating, too.

He says his work is easy to read for children at all levels of reading ability and his characters have all been derived from native British animals, as well as some from America.
