Westfield still riding high

WESTFIELD are still riding high in the top three of the Sussex Division Two table despite a mixed weekend of results.

After the euphoria of the 1-0 win over Crawley Down which took them to the league's summit for the first time in their history on Saturday they came crashing back down to earth with a 4-0 reverse at the hands of Eastbourne United Association on Monday.

A trademark Lawrence Brand free kick from 25 yards sealed a hard-fought triumph over Down but a goalkeeper error from Peter Newstead set them off on the wrong foot against Eastbourne. At 2-0 down with 10 minutes of the first half remaining, star man Duncan Jones was dismissed for a second bookable offence and the visitors went on to add two more after the break.

Jones (wedding) is unavailable when the Parish Field club visit Worthing United on Saturday August 30 while Tony Harris, Mark Ward and Chris Rea are all injury doubts.
