STUART AT THE DOUBLE

TWO GOALS from Stuart Garrod and one from Tony Holden completed a double for Southwick over Hassocks at Old Barn Way on Saturday.

Wickers manager Sammy Donnelly said afterwards he was pleased with the result, but admitted he already had one eye on the forthcoming RUR Cup semi-final with Burgess Hill (at Hassocks, February 19).

He explained: "I wanted to try a couple of new things before the Burgess Hill game. I decided to move from the usual three up front to just two. It meant we had to be a bit more patient as much more support was needed from the midfield. This was something we didn't really do in the first half, but in the second it really made the difference."

It took until the 51st minute for the difference to be established in terms of the goal, when Hassocks keeper Joel Harding spilled Simon Funnell's powerful cross, welcoming the hovering Holden to pounce and despatch ruthlessly.
