Sussex Police said both motorcycles had left the A27 and were travelling along the slip road leading to the Holmbush roundabout when the impact occurred. Mr Robinson had lost control of the machine and struck a post.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, along with two others which occurred over the weekend, to see if lessons can be learned.

A 52-year-old Hampshire man died three hours earlier when his Kawasaki KX9 motorbike collided with a car at Funtington, near Chichester.

A 55-year-old man from Surrey died when his Yamaha 1,000cc motorbike was in collision with a car near Devil s Dyke.
