Shooting star’s silver lining

With selection for the London 2012 Olympics drawing ever closer, the Battle shooter came second in the men’s double trap individual and pairs events.

In the process Scott outperformed two of his rivals for places in the British Olympic team, and he will now have to wait and see whether he has done enough to make the cut.

The 27-year-old recorded an impressive score of 190/200 in the individual event in Larnaca, Cyprus, to finish just five points behind gold medal winner Håkan Dahlby, from Sweden.

Of the other Brits, Stevan Walton came sixth with 176/200 and Richard Faulds failed to qualify for the six-man final after ending the qualification stage 14th on 136/150.

All three British athletes shot well in the first three rounds with scores in the mid to high 40s and Scott - the 2008 European champion - hit a perfect 50 in the second round.

Britain also won silver in the men’s team event after finishing just five points behind champions Russia and one ahead of third-placed Italy. Scott scored 142, Walton 141 and Faulds 136, giving the team a total of 419/450.
