Rocks round off with victory

Bognor gave their supporters a great memory for the summer with a comprehensive victory at Nyewood Lane this afternoon.

They were sharper than their Dorset opponents throughout and deservedly took the lead on 17 minutes when Ben Johnson picked up a loose ball in midfield and drove a shot home from the edge of the box.

Rocks could have been ahead by then but Ben Watson's strike - following up after Dorchester keeper James Hussey had juggled a Michael Birmingham free-kick - was ruled out for offside.

Luke Nightingale extended the lead on 29 minutes when he linked up with Birmingham to shoot into the bottom corner on the turn.

But the best was saved until just before the hour when Richard Hudson netted a contender for goal of the season, collecting a flick-on by Nightingale before running through the centre and finishing coolly past Hussey.

Rocks fans were given the chance to say farewell to David Piper a minute from time when he came on as a substitute in his final appearance for the club.
