Bexhill-based Robertson will lock horns with six-times World Championship runner-up Jimmy White at the Snooker Shoot-Out in Blackpool from around 9.45pm tonight (Friday).

World number 52 Robertson has won his last two meetings with 59th-ranked White, but anything can happen in the unique tournament that is the Shoot-Out.

With the world’s top 64 ranked players battling it out in a random draw, matches are played over a single 10-minute frame with a shot clock in operation.

In front of the Sky Sports television cameras, Robertson made a name for himself last year when he came back from the seemingly dead to beat Tian Pengfei with an amazing clearance.

Mark Davis, meanwhile, will take on a fellow member of the world’s top 16 in the same competition tomorrow afternoon. St Leonards-based Davis, ranked 14, will face 11th-ranked Ricky Walden.

Davis bowed out of the Championship League this week, meanwhile, after finishing sixth out of seven in group three. The six-reds world champion won two of his six matches at Crondon Park Golf Club, Essex, but a couple of final frame defeats proved costly.

The 41-year-old lost 3-0 to Shaun Murphy, 3-1 to world number one Neil Robertson and 3-2 to Matthew Stevens (despite making a 101 break), as well as beating Graeme Dott 3-2, on Monday. Davis then lost 3-2 to Ryan Day and beat world number four Judd Trump 3-1 on Tuesday, compiling runs of 131, 70 and 66 against the latter.
