The Hornets are back in the driving seat after Eastbourne Town’s shock loss to Littlehampton on Saturday, but Di Paola is not getting carried away despite admitting it’s now a two-horse race.

Horsham have 12 Premier Division matches left to play, but have been in pole position before and slipped.

Di Paola said: “Obviously if Eastbourne Town win their game in hand they are only two points behind, but we have been four points behind, then two then one point.

“Then we had the opportunity to go one-point ahead and then two by beating them. This weekend has gone our way, but there will be lots of twists and turns before the season is over and both teams can slip.

“Providing we do not mess up a lot, I think it is a two-horse race now. If we win our games in hand we are 12 points ahead of Lancing, that does not mean they can’t finish second, but I’d be surprised to see both us and Eastbourne mess up now.

“It’s a straight shoot-out. Fair play to all the clubs at the top, they have stayed consistent and made it a lot harder this year.

“When we won it at East Preston by now everyone else was miles behind, so it has kept really competitive.

“If Eastbourne Town beat us next Saturday, they are back ahead again, so it’s all to play for.”
