Nine runners, including five attempting the 50-mile distance for the first time, competed in the Centurion Running event which saw runners starting at Findon in West Sussex and completing the distance at Eastbourne Sports Park.

Experiencing a whole range of weather conditions, the route included famous landmarks such as Chanctonbury Ring, Ditchling Beacon and Firle Beacon.

Run Wednesdays has had a number of runners complete ultra events over the past few years, including 50-mile and 100-mile distances, since their coach Danny Garbett first completed the SDW50 in 2014.

The original event this year had been planned for April, but the Covid lockdown meant runners heard only two weeks before then that it would be postponed to October 2020.

This meant continuing with training throughout the summer months.

However, this was an opportunity for first-time Centurion runner Fenella Maloney, to continue raising funds for Cancer Research at a time when charities need it most.

So far Fenella has raised more than £1600 after successfully completing the 50-mile distance with her training partner Jacqui Rolls-King.
