Midsummer 5 will see athletes flock to Chichester

First run in 1988, the race was the forerunner of the many evening events which now occupy much of the summer racing calendar.

The original route passed in front of Goodwood House but that was before the days of the Festival of Speed, which needs a great deal of set-up time before the actual event.

In a change which is probably favoured by most of the competitors, the course now takes in a circuit of the famous Goodwood motor-racing circuit giving local runners a chance to test themselves over an iconic part of the local landscape.

Starting from Lavant Village Hall, just north of Chichester, the race is suitable for all standards of runner, ranging from county champions through to club runners and novice and unattached runners.

As well as strong representation from Sussex athletes, the race also attracts runners from farther afield including a large Hampshire contingent.
