King gets keeper for playoffs push

Lewes Football Club manager Steve King believes new goalkeeper Steve Williams is a vital cog in the Rooks's push towards the Conference South playoffs.

King has signed 23-year-old Steve Williams for the remainder of the season after Fulham recalled Corrin Brooks-Meade. He will be the seventh goalkeeper to wear the Rooks's jersey this season.

King said: 'At last I've got the experienced goalkeeper I've been chasing. Steve has been in the squad for around 50 first-team games for Wycombe and has played 25 games for Forest Green in the Conference National this season so has decent experience.

'He's 6ft 6in tall and we are looking to him with his height to be dominant at the back.'

Williams, who has been on loan at Forest Green Rovers for much of this season and has now been released by Wycombe, appeared in both legs as stand-in for Frank Talia when they appeared in the playoffs semi-finals against Cheltenham last season and had been with the club since he was 14.

He will make his debut for the Rooks at home to Eastleigh tomorrow. They then visit Eastleigh on Tuesday evening.
