It's 100 per Arundel out in front

RELEGATED Arundel lead the second division of the Sussex Invitation League after they won their third game, by four wickets at home to Selsey (147).

Ali James made 73, then Rakesh Parmar took another six for 64 with his leg spin. Arundel and Storrington are the only 1st XIs left in the league with 100 per cent records.

Goring are fourth but with a win, a draw and a loss, are already 34 points in Arundel's wake. They drew (184 for seven) at Slinfold (221 for nine) after winning the toss and deciding to field. Skipper Gus McVey and past captain Peter Rebera carried the Goring effort with four wickets for 68 and 63 runs, respectively, and five for 61 and 45.

Clymping, after just missing out on promotion last season, front Division 3 by three points form Ram but 19 from Keymer & Hassocks in third place. Clymping watched visitors Barns Green win the toss, bat, and be dismissed for 64 with four more wickets going to James Salisbury. It was an eight-wicket victory for Salisbury's team.

Ram tied dramatically at East Preston after losing the toss, fielding, then being dismissed for EP's 239 after drawing level with still two wickets left. Both took 15 points and it was Division 3's first tie for five years. EP are fourth but 27 points behind Clymping.

Andy Baumann scored his fourth half-century in that many matches into Chippingdale's latest season of trying to get out of Division 4. He made an unbeaten 61 in their 242 for four at home to St Andrew's, then Ollie Hall ripped out his second successive six-wicket plunder to inflict a 168-run defeat on the toss-winning Burgess Hill side.

New Rustington captain Jamie Howick led from the front with 66. But their 156 for eight was insufficient to hold off visitors Broadbridge Heath, who had won the toss and went on to win by seven wickets with a second-wicket stand of 107 between David Baker and Daniel Smith. Baker found himself high and dry on 98 not out at the point of victory.

Findon was a difficult place to score runs and it brought their first defeat of the Division 1 season - to the champions.

Crawley Eagles bowled out Findon in the 48th over for 130, of which skipper last season Nigel Waller made 66. His brother Graham, in his first season in taking over the captaincy, has now been dismissed for nought in all three Findon games. Eagles were 22 for four and 80 for six before winning by four wickets in 36.3 overs.

Middleton lead the league by five points with Eagles up to fourth, below 2005 champions Billingshurst.

Broadwater took only 11 points after putting in Crawley and scoring only 204 of their 237 target, despite Mark Sinsbury's 125. Crawley had got away from 34 for four. Broadwater were seven wickets down at the close where a victory would have opened up a gap in the bottom half of the table. They stand 28 points ahead of Crawley, who lead the bottom three.
