Horse rescue prompts fundaising event supported by Tina Cook

IN August last year, Melissa Oligario of Findon rescued a bay gelding which had endured a long journey from Spain to France, in horrific conditions.

Uge was part of a consignment of 12 horses sent to a fattening farm in France from where he would have been sent to Italy to slaughter.

The group of horses, which included two pregnant mares, all in a pitiful condition, was rescued from France by members of an English web discussion group, including Melissa.

Now, 14 months on, Uge has blossomed under Melissa's care.

"He has a lovely temperament. You wouldn't believe he was the same horse now. We take him out on hacks and he really is very special," she said.
