Holbrook suffer Brighton blitz

While the Horsham-based side, who went fifth last week with a win against Newick, were dominant for long periods, they could not live with the pace in the Brighton ranks which proved the difference.

The hosts put ten points on the board in the first 20 minutes, although Simon Ley did hit back after a period of flowing rugby, add to that a Paul Davey penalty and Holbrook were right back in it.

But three quickfire tries towards the end of the half put Brighton firmly in charge. There had been plenty to encourage Holbrook in that first period though, and when Davey slotted a penalty, it sparked another spell of pressure, which saw scrum half Jamie Boon exploit a gap around the fringes to score . Davey’s conversion made it 29-18 and Holbrook’s forwards were in the ascendancy.

But, just as in the first half, Brighton exploded into life with three more tries in quick succession as they pounced on Holbrook errors to take the game away from the visitors.

Prop Matt Dawson went over to add a consolation try for Holbrook, but there was still time for one more Brighton score to complete the visitors’ misery.
