Former star is still a wonder

EMMA Ayling has a passion for both eventing and retraining retired racehorses, and at her Billingshurst base is successfully combining her two loves.

Over the years she has reschooled and found loving homes for a number of retired racehorses, which have gone on to lead happy and fulfilling lives.

Six years ago, she took on Star of Wonder, previously trained by Lady Herries at Angmering Park to win two hurdle races.

She forged a special relationship with the mare, whose stallion Celtic Swing had failed by only a short head to win the 2,000 Guineas in 1995 and had won five outstanding races in his career.

Emma and Star of Wonder embarked on Pre-Novice eventing culminating in an outstanding season in 2007, when they were placed consistently in the top ten at events including Firle and Brightling.

In spring, Lady Charlemagne joined Emma's yard from Ncik Littmoden's Newmarmarket yard and has started competing.
