UNDER-16

Predators Youth 5 Barnham Trojans Pumas 3

Barnham took an early lead from a fiercely-struck free-kick. They played slick passing moves but these foundered on the Predators’ solid defence, marshalled by Josh Simmonds.

After the interval a strong run from defence by Matt Morris took him to the edge of the area before he set up Alex Burford to tap in the equaliser.

Jacob Carroll headed home a long ball to give Predators the lead. Barnham equalised with a free-kick but Toby Lauder scored with a screamer from outside the box before Alex Burford tapped in a rebound off the keeper to make it 4-2.

Dom Humphries headed home a corner as Predators threatened to over-run the Barnham defence, but the Pumas came back strongly to reduce the deficit with a converted penalty before the final whistle.

This result gave Predators third spot in the A league, allowing a group of players, some of the whom have been with Predators for eight years, to finish on a high note.

Players and parents thanked Rob and Chris Fellows for running the team for the past five years.

Bognor Town 7 Whyke Orange 2

Bognor’s neat passing soon paid off when Jack Parkinson smashed the ball home and they went two up with some great individual talent by the same player.

Joe Bennett was next to get on the scoresheet with a textbook volley from inside the 18-yard box.

Bognor’s dominance paid off again with a great ball to Parkinson allowing him to get his hat-trick. Whyke pulled one back just before half-time.

Bognor started the second half with another early goal from Parkinson. Whyke controlled play for a spell and were rewarded with another goal.

Whyke’s keeper ran to clear the ball from the corner flag but it fell to Will Lintott 40 yards out and he smashed it in off the bar and the keeper’s back.

Bennett scored Bognor’s final goal, striking a fantastic half-volley on the turn.

Lintott crossed to Bennett, who smashed it home in the six-yard box.

Ben Sullivan slipped the ball through to Parkinson on the left for him to cut into the 18-yard box and smash home. Parkinson soon replicated that to score a second.

Ben Hauxwell set up Bennett to make it 4-0 at the break.

After the interval, Bognor gave away two sloppy goals with the defence miscommunicating but soon, Lintott mashed the ball at the keeper, who tipped it into his own net.

Worthing scored another before Parkinson completed his hat-trick. Hauxwell headed on to Bennett, who volleyed into the top corner.

Parkinson smashed home the seventh.

Chichester City Colts 0 Barnham Trojans 2

City Colts went into their final league fixture of the season knowing only victory would give them a chance of finishing as runners-up in the A division.

Barnham struck first when a strike from the edge of the area from Joseph Allen saw the ball rattle against the bar and rebound into the six-yard box, where Liam Brady was able to sidefoot them into the lead.

Colts lost captain Taylor Parker to a nasty-looking eye injury.

Things went from bad to worse when a misplaced pass was seized upon by Brady, who evaded a couple of challenges from the Colts’ retreating defenders before slotting past Williams for his second.

Colts came out more determined in the second half and matched their opponents, showing a lot more heart and desire and belief.

The only notable effort came in the final minutes when Liam Craddock played a great pass to makeshift forward Rock Rochester to run on to, showing a great turn of pace – only to be foiled by a great save by the Barnham keeper, who was able to turn the shot around the post.

Colts players, management and supporters alike would like to congratulate Barnham on a fantastic achievement of winning both the league and cup double this season.
