Worthing end losing run - Eastbourne Borough beaten

Worthing FC ended their recent run of defeats – but had to settle for a point at home to Taunton and slipped out of the National League South’s top six as a result.

Recent signing Ibby Akanbi put Adam Hinshelwood’s men ahead after 11 minutes but the Somerset visitors levelled through Dave Sims Burgess six minutes before the break.

Worthing are seventh and next comes a midweek trip to Dulwich Hamlet.

Also in National South, a Greg Luer goal wasn’t enough to give Eastbourne Borough any reward – they lost 2-1 at home to Braintree and slip to 14th. They entertain Hampton and Richmond on Tuesday.

In the Isthmian premier Bognor will wonder how they lost 3-2 at Billericay having led 2-0 with 15 minutes left.

Craig Robson and Tom Chalaye put them on the way to victory but they conceded three times in the final 10 minutes to slip to 10th place.

Hastings United completed a six-point and seven-goal week on the road when they followed up their midweek 4-0 win at Wingate with a 3-0 triumph at Herne Bay, who were promoted with them last spring. Kane Penn, Alex Brefo and Sam Adams were on target and the Us now have the divison’s meanest defence – having conceded only seven goals in 11 games, three of which came in one match.

Lewes also had a good Isthmian premier win, beating Margate 2-0 at The Dripping Pan. Razz Coleman De-Graft and Joe Taylor got the goals, one in each half.

But Horsham’s up-and-down form continued – they lost 3-1 at Hornchurch, a Tom Richards goal their only reward.

In the Isthmian south east Burgess Hill are a different side now to the one that started the season slowly and they had Max Miller (2), Dan Perry and Martyn Box to thank for the goals that secured a 4-1 home win over Faversham. They’re up to 14th spot.

One ahead of them are Lancing, whose goals came from Darius Goldsmith and Marcus Allen in a 2-1 home win over VCD.

Lewis Jenkins was the goal hero as Littlehampton won 1-0 at Sittingbourne, to move up to 12th.

Not so fortunate in the Isthmian south east were Chichester – who led 1-0 but lost 2-1 at Chatham; Haywards Heath, who crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Cray Valley PM, or Three Bridges, who lost 3-0 at Beckenham.

In the Sussex derby at the Enclosed Ground, Whitehawk beat East Grinstead 2-0.
