United await Judge’s decision

Hastings United have been trying to bring experienced defender Ben Judge to the football club.

United player-manager Sean Ray was hoping to hear from the player today (Thursday) lunchtime about whether he is willing to make the move down the A21 from Tonbridge Angels.

A couple of other clubs are also believed to be pursuing 35-year-old Judge, who was at Crawley Town from 2001-08 before spending a couple of years with AFC Wimbledon.

With Josh Jirbandey having headed off to the United States last week, Scott Manning having picked up an injury and Ray himself about to begin a two-game ban next week (for his comments to the referee after last week’s 1-1 draw with Wealdstone), United are a little light in central defence.

Ray said of Judge: “He’s vastly experienced and that’s probably what we need. We’ve got options on one or two more if it doesn’t work, but if I can secure him it will be brilliant for us.”

United’s chief felt the time was right to top up his squad given the amount of fixtures facing the club and that several players are carrying knocks.
