Super Southwater Sundays complete the treble while Ajax Kings Arms are relegated

Having won the Division Three league title ten days before as well as claiming the Division Three Cup, they pulled off the treble by beating local opponents Rudgwick in the Invitation Cup final.

Rudgwick went into a 2-0 lead before half time and looked the better side, but after a change in formation the second half saw Southwater level things with 15 minutes to go.

A resilient Rudgwick then went 3-2 up in the 90th minute and looked to have dashed the hopes of the unprecedented treble.

But in the fourth minute of added time a superb free kick from Mark Barnard levelled the scores and the tie went to penalties.

After a miss from each side Southwater converted their last penalty to lift the trophy and round off a fabulous campaign. Paul Osborne, the Southwater manager thanked all his players for a brilliant season and the club record and paid tribute to long-standing keeper Jon Symonds, who retired after the match following 30 loyal seasons as a Southwater player.

Ajax Kings Arms’ relegation from Division One was confirmed with a 5-1 defeat at Angmering on Sunday.

Angmering went one up before a Dan Brazier cross found Chris Burrell at the far post to nod home for 1-1.

Sam Thatcher rattled the bar with a thumping free kick and Ajax were unlucky not to go closer from he rebound.

By the time the wine gums came out at half time Ajax looked to be in control.

However the second half confirmed Ajax’s league position as they just imploded. Rob Woodman entertained in goal and Danny Kirkland showed his boxing prowess at full back, but it’s Division Two next year after Ajax’s first relegation in 17 seasons since forming.
