Steyning boss eyes run after first back to back victories

Steyning Town recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season after coming from behind to beat Saltdean 4-1.

The Barrowmen netted four times in the final 17 minutes to see off the bottom-placed side and move further away from the drop-zone.

Manager Richard Whittington said: “It was very pleasing to pick up two wins on the bounce and I’m hoping we can start putting a run together now. Although Saltdean are bottom of the league, they have signed a lot of good players recently so they are not the whipping boys that the league table might suggest.”

Town spurned a number of chances before half time, Phil Williamson and Michael Page both going close. Saltdean looked set to make Town pay when former Steyning striker Ryan Walton put the hosts ahead. A good response put Town back on level terms, Williamson outpacing the Saltdean defence and slotting home, and Williamson then put the visitors ahead with his second.

Jake Mills scored a superb lob three minutes from time and Craig Knowles sealed the victory in the last minute.

Town: Evans, Mills, Gathern, Hourigan, Parsons, Aslan (Burton 60), McMahon, Page (Dawes 89), Knowles, Harris, Williamson.
