Sids go goal-mad again - although they can't manage 14 this time

Uckfield arrived at Sidlesham for a Sussex division-three game one place above Sids - but the hosts had another great day in front of goal a week after scoring 14 in the cup and ran out 5-2 winners.

The Sids had a setback when their goalkeeper was taken ill and gave Matt Cohen his debut in goal - and he didn’t put a foot wrong.

Uckfield started briskly but on 22 minutes Paul Barnes scored against the run of play. This gave the Sids a lift and they piled on the pressure and within three minutes Ben McDuffie scored a second.

On 35 minutes Uckfield were rewarded a penalty when one of their players was tripped just inside the box and they scored from the spot.

The second half saw Uckfield pressing hard for a second goal and on 60 minutes they were rewarded a free-kick just outside the area. The Sids defenders allowed the ball to pass by the wall and creep in just inside the post.

Sids started to get back into it and Barnes scored his second on 86 minutes with a header deflecting off a Uckfield defender.

Two minutes later, John Phillips scored the goal of the game and he added his second on 90 minutes to make sure.
