Golds had suffered a first league defeat since October, with a 3-0 reverse at Eastbourne United on Saturday, and they looked to be heading for a second successive defeat, when they trailed Hailsham 2-1 with two minutes remaining on Tuesday.

However, strikes from Joe Shelley and Landais grabbed all three points and moved Littlehampton up to second, just a point behind leaders Pagham, with a game in hand.

Littlehampton took the lead on eight minutes when a George Gaskin reverse pass found Kieron Pamment, who slotted the ball home.

Dave Herbert and Shelley both missed chances to make it 2-0 and the home side were made to pay on 41 minutes when Steve Stracey’s left-footed volley was parried into the net by James Askew.

Hailsham then went ahead six minutes after the break as confusion in the Littlehampton backline allowed Sam Divall to latch on to a loose ball and he fired past Askew.

Golds levelled on 88 minutes when Shelley curled a superb strike into the top corner.

Landais then won the match for Golds with his 30th goal of the campaign, as he met a Josh Clack cross and headed past the helpless Betts.
