Chapman believes his Hillians side are nearing Ryman Premier safety

Hillians have been on a tough run of late and their winless run in the league was extended to four games following a 1-0 defeat at Kingstonian on Sunday.

Tyron Smith’s second half strike left Hillians pointless, and looking over their shoulder a little in 16th, following Brentwood Town’s 1-1 home draw with Billericay.

The weekends results have left Hillians with a 14-point gap between themselves and the Ryman Premier relegation zone.

Despite a poor recent run, Chapman feels performance levels have not been matched with a points return but feels a further five points from their final ten games should be enough to secure safety.

He said: “I think we played quite well and Kingstonian and were a little unfortunate not to come away with at least a point.

“I think we’ve learnt since coming into this league that any loss of concentration will cost you.

“Despite not getting the results in recent weeks, I’ve felt we have performed well this season.

“It’s the first time we have been above Ryman South level and from the outset I said safety was our ultimate aim.

“We have 45 points with ten games to go this season and if anyone had offered me that then I would have bitten their hand off.

“It’s just that final push needed now, the first target was 50 points were close to that so I’m pleased so far.”

Hillians will have their work cut out, though, if they are to end the season well. They are due to face five of the current top-six in their final ten matches.

That run kicks off with a home clash against Hampton & Richmond on Saturday.

But that run is not something that fazes Chapman and he believes his side are a match for anyone in the league on their day.

He added: “It’s going to be a tough one for us on Saturday. Hampton are a quality side and have some good players.

“We can go in with confidence having picked up a draw against them earlier in the season.

“I think we just need to get that win and then we can finish the season well.”
