Bad night for footballers

It was a disappointing Tuesday night for the area’s Sussex County League footballers.

Bexhill United and Sidley United were both beaten, although Westfield scored two goals in added time to salvage a dramatic draw.

Despite leading by a Steve Morris (pictured) goal to nil at half time, Sidley were always second best in their Division One match at home to East Grinstead Town and eventually lost 3-1.

Bexhill produced a poor display to go down 3-0 away to Eastbourne United AFC in Division Two with two of the goals coming during the second half.

But Westfield provided some pre-Christmas cheer as a late double from Andy Hales clinched a 4-4 draw at fellow Division Two strugglers Oakwood. Sam Willett scored Westfield’s first two goals to make it 11 for the season.

Full reports on each of these games will appear in Friday’s Observers.
