As reported by www.isthmian.co.uk, two cars carrying seven members of the Rams squad were involved in a road traffic accident on the way to the Ryman Football League Division One South game.

None of the players were seriously injured in the collision at approximately 12.30pm on the A251 Faversham by-pass in Kent, but they were later ferried to Margate’s Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital by Ramsgate chairman Phil Fennell.

Defender Curtis Robinson, 25, was the most seriously hurt after he took a knock to the head and suffered cuts and bruises to his face when one car carrying four players reportedly ran into the back of the other carrying three and a friend who was driving.

Along with another unnamed player, 23-year-old central defender Luke Wheatley, the driver of one of the vehicles, and skipper Jim Sherman, 26, reported that they were feeling unwell afterwards and were expected to be checked out by medics for whiplash and any other possible injuries.

Ramsgate had initially hoped to be able to play the fixture, but after hearing the news, contacted the Ryman League to seek permission to postpone the 3pm clash at The Pilot Field. The fixture was officially postponed just under an hour before kick-off.

Ryman League spokesman said: “In the circumstances and after talking to the two clubs involved, the league agreed to Ramsgate’s request to postpone the fixture. We are relieved the incident was not more serious and wish the players who were injured a speedy recovery.”
