FOOTBALL: Former Albion captain Danny Cullip's weekly column (November 12)

IT seems there could be really exciting times ahead with the appointment of Gus Poyet at Brighton & Hove Albion.

He is a man of great calibre and is extremely well-known in the football world, which can only be good for the Albion.

He was assistant to Dennis Wise at Leeds, when they were docked points, and he played a big part in the unbelievable run they went on afterwards.

Tony Bloom has a vast knowledge of football and there's no doubt he'll be happy with his appointment.

The lads, I'm sure, will all be extremely excited with Gus Poyet, as they will all have seen him play at big clubs, and will want to get out and impress him. This makes Sunday at Southampton even more of a massive game. It was already live on Sky, but this makes it even more high profile.

Martin Hinshelwood, Charlie Oatway and Steve Brown will all have been delighted to score four goals against Wycombe on Saturday '“ but a little disappointed not to have gone straight through.

We will fancy our chances at home now and, providing we can do the job and get through, the next home draw against Rushden and Diamonds is one we will fancy as well

n My Worthing Academy side picked up another win this week, 5-2 at Uxbridge. And we didn't go behind, which was nice for a change.

Our normal left-winger, Zaki, had quite an eventful game. He was about to come off with an injury when our goalkeeper had to come off, so Zaki took over the gloves.

He managed to save one by scrambling a shot away, but he then dropped a right clanger.

He came out to collect the ball. It was one of those new 3G pitches, and the ball bounced straight over his head. Dave Hall videos all the games, so I might send the clip of it into You've Been Framed.

The boys were all out on Tuesday morning in the rain for a tournament down at Worthing College.

Luckily, there were no groundsmen to answer to as the pitch was a mud rink when we had finished '“ all of them were sliding about after scoring and they had a great time.

One of the guys who came through the Personal Best programme was the first to be employed by the club as a steward last week.

Everyone who does the course is guaranteed an interview for a paid job stewarding. It's great and one of the perks of being on the course.
