‘Massive weekend’ for Priory

A ‘massive weekend’ lies in prospect for Hastings Priory’s cricketers, according to first team coach Ian Gillespie.

Priory will be desperate for a healthy haul of points from back-to-back home games against Horsham today (Saturday) and the Sussex Development XI tomorrow.

Priory are bottom of the Sussex Premier League table and 53 points adrift of local rivals Bexhill, who occupy the final safe spot of third-from-bottom.

Gillespie said: “It’s a massive weekend. We’re running out of games; that’s the big issue for us. We’ve got to pick up a win this weekend and a good points return, and hopefully that will get us going.

“We’ve got to start getting some wins under our belt. If we don’t win this weekend, we’ve got seven games left to get four wins and that’s going to be massive pressure.

“Horsham’s going to be an incredibly difficult game because they’re vying for the league title and they’re a very good all-round side. The academy (Development XI) is a game we’ve probably got to win.”

Gillespie says that Sunday’s win over Roffey in the ECB Royal London Club Championship last 16 was “a great boost to the team” and hopes the players will carry that into this weekend.
