College boy Jon aims for the top

High-class coaching, motivational and psychological backing and the support of his fellow up-and-coming stars have all been factors in propelling the 16-year-old amateur to the top of his game, where he can now take his chance at international under-18 level.

A major factor for Jon was his switch from a purely academic career to one that enabled him to chase his dream of becoming a top- rated pro in his chosen sport while studying at the same time.

"I was doing my A-levels but decided that a chance to get to the top in golf was what I wanted," he explained. "So I decided to go full-time to the college. First off, I attended an induction and really liked what I saw. I realised I would be surrounded by golfers but also still be able to get an education. That was a chance I just could not turn down."

Jon started to work with the top team at the college, based at Lindfield Golf Course, near Haywards Heath.
