Charity the big winner at golf day

GENEROUS players raised in the region of £4,500 at the Lady Captain's Jaguar Hole-in-One Charity Day hosted by Cooden Beach Golf Club.

The quartet of Ron and Sheena Foster, Tony Climpson and Gordon Styles won the team prize, with Brian and Miriam Scarles, Steve Bedwell and Keith Wiley finishing as runners-up. The money will go to the Hastings and Rother Multiple Sclerosis Society and help fund the purchasing of a minibus.

Individual prizes: Hole 1 Ladies' longest drive - Barbara Dalton, Hole 3 Golfing break for hole-in-one plus nearest the pin - Steve Ogden, Hole 5 Nearest the pin in two - David Relf, Hole 7 Cobra Irons for hole-in-one plus nearest the pin - Lin Watson, Hole 9 Nearest the pin in two - Fred Laing, Hole 11 Men's longest drive - Luke Cornford, Hole 12 Golfing holiday for hole-in-one plus nearest the pin - John Samuels, Hole 14 Calloway golf bag challenge - Doug Park, Hole 15 Longest drive ladies and gents - Nigel Hole, Hole 18 Nearest the pin in three (ladies' only) - Jan Samson.

The top prize of a sparkling Jaguar car up for grabs from Caffyns went unclaimed after none of the 100 players - divided into four teams of 25 - managed a hole-in-one at the 16th.

Lady captain Jenny Beynon would like to thank all the competitors and sponsors, as well as Cooden Beach Golf Club for allowing the event to take place on the course.
