Bexhill rocked by Ellis injury

BEXHILL Cricket Club's quest to arrest a lean run of form has been hit by the news that Ian Ellis may not be able to bowl again this season.

Bexhill have fallen into the lower half of the Sussex Division Two table on the back of one win in six games after leading the way for a short while earlier in the campaign.

And now they will have to find an alternative to leg injury victim Ellis, who has taken 17 wickets from the five matches in which he has bowled at an average of 11.88.

"He's unlikely to bowl again this season," said captain Steve Phillimore. "He's damaged a tendon in his leg and after each bowling session he struggles. Hopefully he will back soon as a batsman, but he's going to be a big loss because he gives you something different with his pace and bounce and he complements the other bowlers well."

Richard Harrison will return for the long trip to Stirlands on Saturday July 16, but Jack Munro, who twisted his ankle whilst batting in the defeat to Haywards Heath last weekend, is doubtful and John Holland may not be able to travel. The seconds entertain the same opposition.

Sidley captain Eddie Daniels is seeking a repeat of his side's display in their last match at Roffey.

"I'm confident that if we play like that every week," he said, "we will get off the bottom. We've closed the gap by five points and we've still got games in hand on teams so we need to make it count."

Sidley visit Lewes Priory - the only side they've beaten thus far - on Saturday and they now expect to have Tyrone Wildman playing on a far more frequent basis. Keith Luck is also available and Phil Belfield (back) is expected to return. The seconds entertain Lewes and play starts at 1.15pm in all matches.
