Bargh targets fourth Euro medal

Bargh will fly out to the Portuguese city of Caldas da Rainha today (Sunday) to contest the 2014 event next week having won silver in 2008, and bronze in 2010 and 2012.

“My coaching commitments have been huge, but it hasn’t delayed or stopped my training,” said Bargh, a professional badminton coach at Freedom Leisure Summerfields in Hastings.

The Sedlescombe-based player is seeded two for the over-50 women’s singles. She has a bye in round one and will face Waltraud Kronsteiner (Austria) or Pilar Pinto (Spain) in the last 16 on Wednesday.

Bargh - a World Championship bronze medallist in Turkey last year - will also take part in the over-50 women’s doubles alongside Cheshire-based partner Kay Vickers.

Again they have a first round bye, and will take on Elizabeth Gault (Ireland) and Cristina Gil (Spain) or the French duo of Martine Cornier and Judith Laskowski in the last 16 on Thursday.

Organised by Badminton Europe every second year, the European Senior Championships are open to male and female players from over-35s to over-70s.
