Youngsters get a taste of firefighting

Arun's young junior wardens paid a special visit to Bognor Regis Fire Station.

Eleven children, aged between seven and 11, were given a tour of the station and learned about the role of the fire service, gaining valuable fire safety knowledge along the way.

The youngsters are members of the Laburnum Grove Junior Wardens Scheme, set up last year by Arun District Council with funding from the Arun Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

It involves 12 young people from Laburnum Grove Junior School in Bognor Regis and aims to help local children work together and learn about safety, good citizenship and environmental projects.

The junior wardens have also been promoting good citizenship in their school and been involved in taking part in clean-up days with Arun's community wardens, litter picking areas near their school.

Last week's trip was organised by Arun's community warden Michael Harris who said: 'The junior warden scheme is an excellent one, focusing on keeping young people safe and promoting positive citizenship, actively helping us at community events and generally being great ambassadors.'
