Worthing panto new spooky scene

CONTROVERSY over this year's Worthing Pavilion Theatre pantomime has led to an amended version of the show being performed instead.

Cinderella has been criticised by panto-goers who said it was not suitable for young children.

Shirley Twigg of Guildford Road, Worthing, wrote a letter to the Herald to say she thought the panto was a "shambles".

She said: "It was more like a musical, with very inappropriate jokes for the children present."

Gemma Nethersole, from Worthing Theatres, said a change was made to the performance at the end of last week in reaction to criticisms from the public.

She said: "One of the dames' musical scenes where there was a Beyonce song has been changed in favour of a hilarious ghost-scene with lots of audience participation and 'he's behind you' style interaction."

Director Paul Hammond added: "We decided to change one small scene after listening to feedback and it's made what was already a fantastic panto even better.

"It's a spectacular festive show with magic ingredients which bring the well-loved story of Cinderella to life."

Kim Fleming, head of sales and marketing said ticket sales were "excellent".

She said: "From a sales perspective, we're on-track for this to be one of our most successful pantomimes ever."

Cinderella runs at Worthing Pavilion until Sunday, January 3.
