Worthing GCSE girls among top in country

BRIGHT students from Davison High have celebrated getting some of the highest GCSE marks in the country.

The school in Selborne Road, East Worthing, was delighted with results gained by Rachel Buckland, Emily Cradduck, Charlotte Green, Whitney Morgan and Olivia Harrison.

Rachel scored one of the top five marks in performing arts: dance, out of the 19,114 candidates nationwide who took the exam.

Rachel, 16, now studying A-levels in Lewes, said: "I was really shocked when I discovered how well I had done."

Emily, Charlotte and Whitney all achieved scores in the top five marks in applied performing arts '“ there were 2,542 students entered for the exam nationwide.

Emily, now doing A-levels at Worthing College, said: "This was one of my favourite subjects. I was ecstatic when I was told about my high mark."

Also delighted with the news was Charlotte, who is now doing a dance teaching award and A-levels at Chichester College.

Whitney has since moved to Ireland.

Out of 35,412 students nationwide who sat Spanish, Olivia Harrison scored one of the top five marks.

Olivia, who is studying A-levels at Worthing College, said: "I was quite surprised when I found out. I have been learning Spanish since year eight. My family were very pleased."

Each student received a congratulatory letter from the examination board.

Della West, head teacher, warmly congratulated the students and said: "They richly deserved this accolade for all the hard work they had put into their subjects and we wish them every success in their future education.

"Their achievements demonstrate the commitment and calibre of teaching staff at Davison."
