VOTE: Worthing teenagers campaign for club night

HUNDREDS of teenagers have joined an online group in protest over the closure of an under-18s club night in Worthing.

The club nights, held on Fridays at See or Be Seen, formerly Club East, opposite Worthing railway station, were cancelled two weeks ago.

Club manager Jamie Sim said the decision to close the under-18 nights by the police, has left youngsters in the town feeling "cheated" because there is nowhere else for them to go.

He said: "We had more than 300 children coming every week.

"Now the kids have nothing to do, so they will probably be going back into parks and the town centre at night."

A Facebook group, called Save under 18s See or Be Seen, has 979 members, who are all fighting to get the club nights reopened.

One youngster said: "I've only been twice and I loved it.

"Why shut it when people just want to have some fun and hang out with mates on a Friday night?"

Even parents have joined the group, with one saying: "As an adult, I believe this age group need somewhere to go.

Jamie added: "Brighton has three under-18 nights, Eastbourne has three and Chichester has one '“ but Worthing now doesn't have any.

"There were a couple of incidents, but they were kids outside the club which we have no control over.

"We are really hoping the police will think again."

The club-goers and managers are hoping to arrange a peaceful protest in Worthing town centre on Saturday, November 14.
