Two stabbed in Worthing town centre attack

TWO men were stabbed when they were attacked by a gang in Worthing town centre.

The stabbing happened in Chapel Road at around 3am on Saturday, when two men walking near the Subway sandwich shop and the Chelsea building society were set upon by four men.

One of the gang wielded a knife and the victims received wounds to the neck and back.

Two of the attackers ran off after door staff from Subway and nearby taxi marshals ran over to intervene.

One of the victims is believed to have suffered a punctured lung and is still in Worthing Hospital.

The other man was stabbed in the neck but escaped serious injury.

Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH and released on police bail.

DC Peter Davis, of Worthing CID, said: "This was an unprovoked assault on two young men returning home from a night out.

"It could have resulted in more serious or even fatal wounds because it involved the use of a knife."
