Two homes firebombed

FIREBOMBS exploded at two addresses on Monday night, terrifying residents. Victims have spoken of hearing loud explosions. One told the Observer of seeing smoke and flames: "It was very, very frightening."

Police warn that offenders risk being charged with arson if caught and that so dangerous a practice could potentially put them on a manslaughter charge.

But in neither incident did the victims get a glimpse of the offenders. Police have retained fragments from the second attack for forensic tests.

Community Beat Officer PC Alan Green is appealing for anyone with information to contact him at Bexhill police station on 0845 6070999 in confidence.

He said: "On the evening of Monday, January 21, two incidents were reported in Bexhill arising from the detonation of what are described by witnesses as extremely loud or powerful fireworks.

"In the first incident off Ninfield Road at about 6pm, one was exploded in a flower basket outside a house. Just prior to this the doorbell had been rung and it is possible that the offenders intended that the occupants should have opened the front door at the moment the device exploded.

"The second incident arose at 8.30pm where a device was put through the letterbox of flats in the town centre.
