UPDATE: Two arrested after off-duty police chase in Broadbridge Heath

An off-duty police officer gave chase and helped to apprehend a man after a collision near Broadbridge Heath last night (Thursday January 23).

Two men decamped from a black Volkswagen GTI after a one-vehicle collision involving a tree on the A264 Guildford Road at around 11.20pm.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “An off-duty police officer gave chase and police arrested a 23-year-old man from Horsham on suspicion of drink driving and taking a vehicle without consent nearby about 15 minutes later.

“He was taken to the East Surrey Hospital for treatment to injuries that he had sustained in the collision and was then taken into custody where he remained on Friday morning (January 24).

“A police helicopter was then brought in to assist with the search and around 1.25am, a 24-year-old man from Slinfold, was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taking a vehicle without consent.

“He had also been injured in the crash and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment. He remained in hospital on Friday morning.”
