Update: Car fire blocks A24 near Southwater
Commuters faced long delays and queues on the A24 near Southwater this evening (Friday January 24) due to a car on fire.
The A24 Worthing Road in Southwater was blocked and there was very slow traffic southbound between the Mill Straight junction and Buck Barn crossroads.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 4.35pm.
There were no injuries and the incident has been described as ‘accidental ignition’.
At one stage congestion stretched all the way back to the Hop Oast Park And Ride roundabout.
The incident has now been cleared and road fully opened.
