Pedestrian seriously injured in crash near Horsham

A man was seriously injured following a collision with a car near Horsham last night (Sunday September 25).

Officers were called to the A281 Brighton Road at Mannings Heath at about 8.35pm.

Police said a 30-year-old man, who was walking in the road, was in collision with a red Mini One travelling north.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said the man was treated at the scene for head and chest injuries. He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. The Air Ambulance was also called.

Police said the man’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening or life-changing.

A 21-year-old woman, from Horsham, who was driving the Mini, was treated at the scene for shock.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The driver of a silver Citroen Berlingo van travelling south and other members of the public had stopped to try to lead the man to safety, but he broke free and the collision with the Mini then occurred.”
