The scheme will widen around two kilometres of single carriageway to dual carriageway in Angmering and Littlehampton, cutting journey times and pollution, West Sussex County Council said.
Preparation works, such as clearing the land of trees and shrubs next to the A259 in Angmering, began months ago and were recently resumed after a break while a legal dispute was settled.

A West Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “Every effort will be made to limit inconvenience during this major improvement scheme but there will be some disruption, for which we apologise.
“Road users are advised to please take an alternative route, if possible, or allow extra time for their journeys.”
The scheme includes widening part of Worthing Road in Littlehampton to a dual carriageway from the new Lyminster Bypass roundabout at Highdown Drive – under construction – to the Body Shop Roundabout.

This will feature a new cycling and pedestrian route to the south, separated from the main carriageway by a verge, the county council said.
New controlled pedestrian crossing points will be included at Haskins and at Station Road.
