She was admitted to the intensive therapy unit, but died two days later, on March 14.

Victoria was described by both her father, David Jayne, and stepfather as a lively, healthy little girl with no history of health problems.

On the night of March 12, Victoria had gone to a club for young people in Wick, where she had been a member for five years.

She returned early after a tiff at the club and went straight to her bedroom without telling her mum what was wrong.

Mrs Jayne found Victoria hanging when she took her daughter s dinner to her bedroom.

Although a handwritten note was found on Victoria s bedroom floor, West Sussex coroner Roger Stone was reluctant to record a verdict of suicide.

An open verdict was recorded.

The full inquest is in the Gazette, August 30.
