Top supermarket takes over vacant Littlehampton site

Littlehampton is celebrating the news that the vacant town centre Somerfield site has been bought by Sainsbury's.

The site had been empty for around 18 months, having an adverse impact on trade in the town.

Littlehampton Mayor Malcolm Bellchamber said: "This is brilliant news for Littlehampton. The site had been empty for a long time, having an adverse impact on the trade at that end of the town."

He said the move showed confidence in Littlehampton.

"Let's move forward with this and show what we are capable of in Littlehampton. To have a store of this quality and weight behind us is fantastic," he said.
