Top director hopes to “super size” Climping’s crowd

SPECTATORS at Climping FC’s home match with TD Shipley on Saturday could find themselves being filmed by top director Morgan Spurlock, of “Super Size Me” fame.

He is making a series of documentaries for the Sky Atlantic channel about the difference in cultures and traditions between the US and the UK, and in this case, looking at grassroots football.

Climping, next to bottom of the Sussex County League division three, with just four points from 13 matches, might seem an unlikely subject, but a spokeswoman for the production company making the series said: “He chose them because they are having a bit of a hard time.

“He is coming down to give them a motivational boost and some support.”

It’s hoped that the presence of the television cameras and a big name in the film industry will attract a larger than usual to Climping’s home ground, just off the A259 at the junction with Church Lane.

The spokeswoman added: “Morgan is very excited about coming down to Climping. The match is going to be a lot of fun, so come down and support your local team.”

Morgan himself will be interviewing spectators, as well as players and club officials, for the programme, which is likely to be screened next year. He made his name with a documentary film in which he ate nothing but burgers from a fast food chain for a whole month, and highlighted the impact on his health and body.

The match kicks off at 1.45pm.
