Tate Britain to launch initiative in Bognor

More than 100 photographers will be descending on Bognor Regis next summer as part of an arts initiative between Tate Britain and Goldsmiths University.

Former Goldsmiths student Rebecca Locke has negotiated with the two institutions to hold an 'arts symposium' in the town next June.

It is anticipated their works will subsequently be displayed in the town and potentially nationally - which would be a major boost to the area with prestigious backing from Tate Britain.

Richard McMann, head of Arun District Council's Bognor Regis regeneration task force, welcomed the venture as an exciting prospect for the town.

He said: "Rebecca came to our last Regeneration meeting a year ago and asked what people could do as individuals to help ensure that Bognor Regis's heritage is preserved and promoted. She rose to the challenge and we are also involving Chichester University and Butlins."
