Sun shines on inaugural college fete

IT is often said that the sun shines on the righteous, and it certainly shone on the inaugural Robertsbridge Community College Summer Fete on Saturday.

There was a real buzz to the whole afternoon with families listening to music from a variety of college students while enjoying a wide selection of stalls and sideshows.

Beat the goalie, face painting, the huge cake stall, book stall and bar all proved popular, while the ‘welly wanging’ proved highly entertaining.

There was even an unannounced fly-past by the Red Arrows at the beginning of the event. Although they were en route elsewhere, it certainly impressed those who had already arrived.

Headteacher Simon Potten said: “It was wonderful to see so many people relaxed and enjoying a true community event, organised by the college’s own student council. We hope this will be the first of many.”

Although the final total is yet to come, it is believed that more than £900 was raised from the event.

Money raised will be donated to the college’s 2013/14 chosen charity BACE, which also had a stall at the event.

The college has thanked all who supported the event. It is hoped the event will return next year to mark the 60th anniversary of the college.
