Stunning rare ibis spotted at Arundel Wetland Centre

A glossy ibis in full breeding plumage has been spotted landing at Arundel Wetland Centre.

This rare bird, normally found in southern Europe, has been sighted in Britain in the past, but is an unusual visitor to the area. It often nests in colonies with herons and little egrets.

Alex Pigott, reserve warden at the centre in Mill Road, Arundel, said: "There is a colony of little egrets near Arundel Wetland Centre and this could well have attracted the glossy ibis to the area.

"It is the first sighting of a glossy ibis on our reserve and we are delighted that all our hard work on managing wetland habitat has paid off.

"We are hoping the glossy ibis returns to the reserve so that visitors can enjoy this stunning bird."
