STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: As the club heads towards the close of the bowls season, the team have five more matches arranged for this week. Match No: 1 is for Saturday August 29th and will be played against the Observer team. This is the first of 4 matches to be played at the club’s home ground at Northiam Road, Staplecross and will commence at 2.30pm. Sadly, no Sunday lay-ins for the teams today as match No: 2 is an away game on Sunday August 30th when their opponents will be Iden. Back on home ground for fixture No: 3 which will take place on Monday August 31st and this time the team will be against Hollington. Taking us into the month of September will be match No: 4 with another home fixture on Wednesday September 2nd and this time the teams will be battling it out against Herstmonceux. The week draws to a close with a final match, again on the club’s superb greens when on Thursday September 3rd, the club will meet Hastings. All matches will commence at 2.30pm and supporters are always very welcome, so as the majority of the matches this week will be played here at the Club Pavilion, please try to come along and support your local club. There are only another further seven matches left to be played, so don’t miss out on seeing any one of them. ROTHER RAMBLERS: As the Summer slides into Autumn, the members of this active but very friendly outdoor activity continue to make the most of what’s left of it and this week sees two more walks planned for our enjoyment. Walk no: 1 is arranged for Sunday August 30th and is an 8.5 mile glorious circular stroll of Buxted - Hadlow Down. Those who would like to take part should meet in the Buxted Railway Station. OS EXP135. TQ497233. (SatNav TN22 5FD) at 10.00am. Sadly parking charges will apply here, but as usual, a picnic lunch is recommended for your enjoyment. Heading into September, there will be another 8.5 mile circular meander of Benenden, delightful at anytime of the year, and this will take place on Friday September 4th. when those interested in joining in on this stroll will meet at 10.00am in Benenden. STAPLECROSS & EWHURST GREEN W.I. Following their summer recess the ladies of the local W.I. group will be making their way to their meeting place at St. Mark’s Church Room on Tuesday September 1st for the first speaker of the Autumn/Winter period.Commencing at 2.30pm and after dealing with the ‘paperwork’ side of the business, their president Ann Prodinger, will welcome the guest speaker. This month it will be Mr. Michael Hoad who will be taking us on a delightful tour from “Weald to Wallend”. The W.I. packs a huge amount into their yearly calendar of events, including, outings; craft meetings; lunch club; book club as well as the monthly meetings. MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT: Just a gentle reminder of a chance to enjoy wandering around the delightful grounds of Merriments Gardens in all their glory, whilst supporting such a worthy charity. On Tuesday September 2nd. Merriments Gardens are to be open in aid of this amazing charity, - Macmillan Cancer Support.As you are all aware, this awful disease effects not only those suffering from it personally, but all those family and friends, who love and care and therefore also share in their anguish. This is such a worthwhile cause and funds are so desperately needed. Please come along and help raise as much money as we can. The glorious gardens are open between 10.0am and 5.30pm Admission is £7:00 per Adult, and children go free. Every penny raised on this day, at this event will go to the Charity, -so please do come along and help make the pile higher.

EWHURST GREEN RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: The Inaugural A.G.M. of this association will take place on Wednesday September 2nd at the Herdman Pavilion, Ewhurst Green and will commence at 7.00pm. EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL: Following our own summer recess, this months meeting will take place a few days earlier than normal and will be held at the Arthur Herdman Pavilion, Ewhurst Green on Thursday September 3rd at the earlier time of 7.00pm. As usual, this meeting is open to the public and press alike and allows all residents of Ewhurst parish community, the perfect opportunity to come along and have your say. Together with our own Parish Councillors, there are usually representatives from both Rother District Council (Mr. Tony Ganly) and East Sussex County Council (Mrs Angharad Davies) You’ll be able to question, query, comment or complain on any or all of the things going on within our parish. We are all here to listen to what you have to say, and more importantly, to what you want to happen (or NOT happen !) within this community. We are here to work on your behalf, to make our community a better, safer and happier place to live, work and enjoy being in. Look for the banner outside, and all will be welcome.

E.S.& B.GARDEN SOCIETY SHOW: It doesn’t seem five minutes since this amazing little local garden society held it’s Annual ‘Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show’, and yet, here we are again with this great event to look forward to and participate in!. Taking place on Saturday September 5th between 2.30pm and 4.15pm and held at the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. There are lots & lots of classes to choose from, with a wide variety of subjects ranging from obviously the Flower, Fruit and Vegetable sections, to Flower Arranging, Home produce, Lots of Home Bakes classes, Knitting, Needlework, Craftwork, Artwork,and Photography. The entry fees are a miserly 30p, - yes just 30p, per class, so it certainly won’t break the piggy bank and there is something for every, from all age groups, genders and abilities. If you haven’t already got an entry form/schedule, - all is not lost- Spare copies are available at the Village Shop, in Staplecross. Don’t leave it too long to think about, as the (official) closing date is Wednesday September 2nd. If you don’t wish to actually enter a class, why not just come along and enjoy the show?. It’ll be well worth it.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES: Just three (3) advance notices for you to jot down, so as not to miss them. It’s that time of the year again when that stalwart chappie, Alastair Neill will jump on his trusty steed, - or in this case, his bike,- to take part in the Annual Ride & Stride Cycle Ride around the county. This year this charity event will take place on Saturday September 12th. You can choose the area that you’d like to ride or stride around, and Alastair will give you a list of the churches open & more importantly, those where you can get sustenance etc. from. Sponsor forms are also available from Alastair and remember that 50% of all the money you raise goes to our own church and the remaining 50% goes to the Sussex Historic Churches Trust. MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING: Many events are being held up & down the country, at various dates and times, in support of this very worthwhile charity. Well, we here in within Ewhurst Parish, are also going to be doing our bit, - and being a part of the national Macmillan Coffee Morning Event, - by also holding a coffee morning which will take place on Friday September 25th in the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. Pauline is the lady who is helping organise this amazing event and if you have any items that may be used for Tombola prizes,- Bring & Buy stall or as a Raffle prize, then, please contact her on 01580~830570. VILLAGE HALL JUMBLE SALE: Advance notice of the ever popular Jumble Sale in aid of the Village Hall Funds is arranged to take place on Saturday September 26th at the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross.

Doors will open at 2.00pm and as well as the bags of bargains- always to be had, there will be a Raffle stall; a Cake & Produce Stall; a Nearly New Rail as well as the obligatory and ever welcome refreshments Donations of Jumble can be left at the Village Hall from 9,30am on the morning of the Sale or if you cannot manage this, please contact Hilary on: 01580~830704 who may be able to arrange collection.

CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday August 30th. Trinity 13.at 9.30am.This service will include Holy Communion. There will be NO SERVICE held today, at St. Giles church, Bodiam. An EVENING SERVICE commencing at 6.00pm of ‘Rye Churches Together’ will be held at St.Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross.
