COMMUNITY NEWS & REVIEWS: Two pieces of information this week, - one asking for news and one giving you news:and they are as follows: Item No: 1 ~ EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL are concerned about the apparently abandoned BLUE RENAULT '˜MEGANE' saloon car, which has been left parked in the car park adjoining St. Mark's church, Northiam Road, Staplecross, for a considerable time now. This vehicle is taking up valuable parking space within a busy and popular car park for those using, or visiting, the playing field, the Church or the Church room. If anyone knows who owns this vehicle, or can provide any further information in helping to find the owner/registered keeper, would they please contact the Parish Clerk (Richard Farhall) on 07775~333096.Any relevant information will be gratefully received & will be treated in the strictest of confidences. You don't even have to give your own name if you don't wish to do so. Item No: 2 ~ STAPLECROSS VILLAGE HALL ~ Last Saturday (24th) the Staplecross Village Hall Committee held a fundraising event in the form of a huge Jumble Sale. A great turn out of 'Jumblers' arrived to enjoy this rummage sale and in a very short space of time '˜twas all over, bar the shouting' !. At the end of the afternoon, and with the inclusion of the Tombola and Raffle stalls, the fantastic sum of £389:00 was able to be added to the coffer of the Village Hall Fund. A huge 'THANK YOU' is extended to all those willing (& even those '˜unwilling) helping hands who came and helped man a stall, ran the Tombola and the Raffle stalls & served the teas, - without your help, this event wouldn't have run so smoothly and the biggest 'thanks' must go to all those who came and '˜bagged a bargain'. The Committee have lots more fundraising events still to come so do please come and take part in them, have fun whilst doing so, and know you'll also be helping to support and preserve our much loved Village Hall.

ROTHER RAMBLERS: All set to enjoy the glorious Autumnal colours that are all around us, this popular walking group have two more walks arranged for this week in which to appreciate them.. Walk no: 1 is a 7 mile circular stroll around Burwash and is planned for Sunday October 2nd. The meeting point will be the car park next to the Bear Inn, Burwash. OS EXP136. TQ673246. (SatNavTN19 7EX) at 10.30am. The walking notes state that this walk is ‘fairly hilly’ but the usual suggested picnic lunch should help make the going worthwhile. Sue & Dave will be your ‘walk leaders for today and you may contact them on 01424~441018 or mobile: 07729~056526 for all further details. Walk No: 2 is an 8.5 mile meander ‘South from Hadlow Down’ and this is arranged for Wednesday October 5th. The meeting point will be the lay-by at Tinkers Park, on t A272, just before ‘Wilderness Wood’. OS EXP 135. TQ539241. (SatNav TN22 4ES at 10.00am. The walking notes for this excursion state that parts of the Wealdway & Vanguard Way, which converge at Tickerage Mill will be used. Again a picnic lunch is suggested. STAPLECROSS & EWHURST GREEN W.I.: Looking forward to the Autumn season with lots of interesting events to look forward to, the ladies of the local W.I. will once more be meeting up on Tuesday October 4th at St. Mark’s Church Room, Northiam Road, Staplecross at 2.30pm. The speaker for this month’s meeting will be Ms Miriam Bennett who will be talking to us about the ‘Cat’s Protection’ which should certainly give us all food for thought. With our internationally famous W.I. teas to look forward to amongst friends old & new, it promises to be another very enjoyable afternoon. If you’d like to become a member of this lively and very friendly, social group or would like to find out more of what’s happening in our calendar of events, then please either pop along to any of our meetings, held on the first Tuesday of each month at the above place and time, or contact Ann on 01580~831944 for all further information.

EAST SUSSEX MOBILE LIBRARY: Once more, we look forward to welcoming the little Mobile Library Service as the van, carrying all the exciting goodies on board, wends it’s way through our little countryside lanes on it’s way to our outlying rural communities. We are privileged to have two (2) visits to this area for this month, - the first of which will be on Thursday October 6th (the second being 27th) and will first call to Staplecross, where it will park in Cricketers Field, between 1.40pm and 2.10pm. Following on from that session, it will then meander down to Cripps Corner, - where it will now use the car park of the ‘Direct Recovery Yard between 2.20pm and 2.45pm. for the foreseeable future. This venue is on the Battle Road, over the bridge, toward Swailes Green. The residents of this little hamlet can then avail themselves of this vital and much needed service. This is a relatively new ‘stopping place’ - due to the closure of the local pub and uncertainty of it’s proposed future, please do still make as much use of the facilities on board when the van visits your areas. The Library is about more than just books, so please come along and see for yourself and help keep this service going for the benefit of all who live in our outlying rural areas and perhaps, cannot always easily access the Main Branch facilities

EWHURST, STAPLECROSS & BODIAM GARDEN SOCIETY: As mentioned last week, this popular village horticultural society will be holding the next meeting in their busy 2016 Programme of Events on Thursday October 6th at 7.30pm.in the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. This time it has an even sweeter taste which should appeal (perhaps a’peel may be more appropiate here !) to a wider audience, as this meeting which together with a superb speaker in the form of Alison Marsden, Garden Designer who will be speaking to us on how to get “More Impact for Less Effort” - close to many a gardener’s heart - we will be having our October ‘Apple Dessert ‘ competition which is any dessert with Apple as the main ingredient. We’d like if possible, for you to please bring your recipe along, to share with others, and last year, many enjoyed the delightful tasting of these ‘puds’ with panache’ which made for an even more enjoyable evenings entertainment. To discover more of this particular interesting item and for more information on how you can become a member of this warm-hearted, friendly and helpful horticultural society, please give the club’s secretary (Ruth) a ring on 01580~831918. We would love to welcome you to our group.

STAPLECROSS M.C.P.SCHOOL: Our lovely little village school will once again be holding their Harvest Festival service at our much loved little village church, St. Mark’s, in Northiam Road, Staplecross on Friday October 7th beginning at 2.15pm. It would be wonderful, and very generous if all the children could bring an item of food to be included in the school’s donation to the Food Bank appeal, presently being undertaken throughout the parish. Any non-perishable item, - such as: tinned meat fish, vegetables or fruit.- Instant potato or custard.- Powdered milk. Pasta sauces. Cereals, Biscuits, and of course, Tea, Coffee & Sugar, would be so very gratefully received and would be made into a wee hamper and delivered to those who would enjoy them. This is a wonderful introduction to the world of “Caring is Sharing” attitude in our young children and will hopefully continue throughout their lives. The parishioners’ ‘Harvest Praise’ service will be on Sunday October 9th at 11.15am. again at St. Mark’s church in Staplecross. This is always a very special service for the community, so please make a note of the date and come and join us.

STAPLECROSS VILLAGE HALL: The members of the Village Hall Committee have arranged another “Fun Quiz Night” as part of their fundraising efforts on behalf of the Village Hall. Back by popular request, this event has been arranged to take place on Friday October 7th. at 7pm to begin the quiz at 7.30pm. Tables of 4 are preferred, to give more people a chance and the cost is £7:50 per person which includes a choice of a variety of delicious hot suppers with dessert of your choice and like last year, a vegetarian option will be available. A superb raffle will be held with some great prizes and you are invited to bring along your own choice in ‘drinkies’ to add to your evening’s enjoyment. These evenings are full of fun, laughter and good times, with of course, the odd moan & groan or two, thrown in , but always in good spirit ! CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St, James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday October 2nd.Trinity 19. at 9.30am. This service will include Holy Communion. A Family Service which will also include a Harvest Festival, will follow directly afterwards at St. Giles church, Bodiam at 11.15 am. There will be NO SERVICE at St. Mark’s church, Staplecross today and if there is any church matter on which you feel you may need further assistance, or guidance,- baptisms, weddings or sadly funerals; - then do please get in touch.
