St Stephens Church fair

THE TEMPERATURE may have been hovering around freezing point but that didn't stop hundreds of people leaving the warmth of their homes to support the many Christmas fayres in the locality last weekend and, always popular with local people was the Christmas Fayre at St Stephens Church.

Not only was there plenty to buy from the range of stalls selling everything from toys and books to hand-knitted baby clothes and tea cosies, Christmas cards and hand-crafted woodwork, bric a brac and gifts, there was also a raffle and popular tombola.

Children were entertained with games such as 'guess the dolls name' or 'guess the weight of the Christmas cake' - which was beautifully made and iced by Janet Barnett, and with the prospect of whomever guessed the weight correctly taking the scrumptious looking cake home, understandably she said the game had proved to be, "very popular."

Home made cakes were quick to sell out; teas, coffees and snacks were also served.

The Reverend David Frost said that funds raised from the event will go into the church funds and that they had had a "very good turn-out."
